CHAPTER 1: IDENTITY AND LANGUAGE LEARNING

I was read the article Ten Tips for Avoiding Beginner’s Frustration by Curtis West. During ten years of combining travel and language studies I have experienced these frustrations with fellow adult learners. These tips represent the cumulative wisdom garnered from this informal group. I think the first step until ten tips is very important because must investment of time and energy, will go forward and go backward and ahead. Besides that, learning language is going to take longer than. If after your first month of study you can capture the basics of your new language, you will have made great progress. Therefore, will find it useful to have a textbook or workbook about new language that is written in English. Then, knowing that your goal is to learn their language will encourage speaking it. After that, talk to any student of language who was reached some level of proficiency and will admit that they express themselves differently in their second language and, as a result, think differently. Nevertheless, learning a new language involves learning about yourself as a student. Language study is a journey of both world discovery and self discovery. Lastly, the four skill areas of language are speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension. Of all the skill areas, developing your comprehension of the spoken language takes the most time. It’s frustrating because often the other skills get ahead of understanding speech. In conclusion, as your skills increase, your experiences within the culture will multiply by the day. You will no longer be visiting a place but living in a culture. Every interaction, no matter how seemingly mundane, will be a delightful opportunity to relate to the country and the people. CHAPTER 2: LANGUAGE LEARNING

According to the article Top Five Fantasy Stories-Minnesota Twins, August 19th, 2008. I think this article is very interesting. It is been heady times for Twins fans, as team has kept even with the White Sox for the division title, and some young players have started to blossom. It all the more fun that it’s happening the season after Johan Santana and Torii left town. It gets to the point where fantasy owners fell well about picking these guys up for a spot start, and fantasy players and Twins fans that two or three of them could continue to develop into better pitchers next year and beyond. In my opinion the Twins are one of the most interesting stories in baseball this year. (See also Rays, Tampa Bay), but they have consistently outperformed expectations both “hard” (e.g. their Pythagorean projections) and “soft”(e.g. the assumption they would only be “ rebuilding” after losing Santana and Hunter). Morneau and Maurer have led them way again for the Twins and for fantasy owners, but contributions from deeper in the roster have kept the team in contention, and the fantasy waiver wire interesting. CHAPTER 3: DECIDING ON A CAREER

Based on the article 7 Criteria for Deciding Which Career Test Is Right for You by Paul Arianna. This article clarifies the differences and presents 7 criteria for deciding which career test is best for you. I think the personality tests only tell about character traits whereas a career assessment gives specific career advice. Besides that, a good assessment should not be general like the astrological horoscopes in the newspaper. Nevertheless, motivation also is a far better career indicator than skill and or personality .Besides that, a good career assessment should include hard data, as well as sufficient detail and explanation to help you intpret the results. Then, an effective career assessment should have a high predictive reliability. Such things can be measured statistically. Anything over 95% is quite good .Lastly, even the internet, there still area a lot of test that can only take on paper. Then have to wait while the test is scored and processed .You may only get your results after several days or weeks. My suggestion, a career test is just a tool and just one step on your career change journey. Nonetheless, it’s worth spending some time to understand what types of tests are available and which is best for you. Just remember that even the best career test is only a tool. By: anne: (1060539)

CHAPTER 4: MARKETING ACROSS TIME AND SPACE

I was read article the advertising and marketing by Julia Henson .I agree with Julia Henson because advertising is important to society and introduces how new products and promotes capitalism. From giving new ideas to improving life styles, advertising has a great effect on the outlook of generations. As we know, marketing became of equal importance with production. Hundreds of similar products were competing with each other. Advertising also began to use psychologists to help them sell their products, such as the television. Besides that, most products were aimed at teens swayed their style and changing their mentors such as Michael Jackson arose due to his lyrics targeting a teen audience. Michael Jackson also appeared in Pepsi commercials, adding his and Pepsi’s teen appeal .In conclusion, advertising and marketing has a major impact and society. Not only does mass media target specific age groups, but it helps advance technology. Without the production of commercials, billboards, radios, etc,. society would not be where it is today. CHAPTER 5: PARENTING, GENDER, AND STEREOTYPES

I was read an article and agree with it in email http://gender.gmu.edu/mse/ads/amadv.html. As we know, gender stereotypes are simplistic generation about gender attributes, differences, and roles of individuals and/ or groups. Stereotypes can be positive or negative, but they rarely communicate accurate information about others. When people automatically apply gender assumption to others regardless of evidence to the contrary, they are perpetuating gender stereotyping. Many people recognize the dangers of gender stereotyping; yet continue to make these types of generalizations. Besides that, the female stereotypic role is to marry and have children. She is also to put her family’s welfare before her own; be loving, compassionate, caring, nurturing, and sympathetic; and find time to be sexy and fell beautiful. The male stereotypic role is to be the financial provider. He is also to be assertive, competitive, independent, courageous, and career-focused; hold his emotions in check; and always initiate sex. One approach to reexamining conventional gender roles and stereotypes is androgyny, which is the blending of feminine and masculine attributes in the same individual. The androgyny, or androgynous person, does not neatly fit into a female or male gender role; she or he can comfortably express the qualities of both genders. Parents and other socializing agents can teach their children to be androgynous, just as they can teach them to be gender. By: anne: (1060539)

CHAPTER 6: BECOMING A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY

Based an article Rites of Passage. I think this article is very interesting. People throughout the world have heightened emotions during times of major life changes. These stressful changes may be physiological or social in nature. They are usually connected with personal transitions between important stages that occur during our lives. Most cultures consider the important transitions be birth, the onset of puberty, marriage, life threatening illness or injury, and finally death. Graduation from school, divorce, and retirement at the end of a work life are also major transitions in modern large-scale societies. As we know, most rites of passage are religious ceremonies. Besides that, marriage is important rites of passage in all cultures. Rites of Passage in many cultures are used to mark the socially recognized transition to sexual maturity. Among some of the indigenous societies of Africa and Australia, intentionally painful genital surgery has been and integral parts such Rites of Passage. Lastly, all of these rites of passage rituals were intended to be painful in order to increase the importance of the transition of adulthood.
